I like the jeans and the shoes. However, the jacket is sending the wrong vibes to me. Either it's too big or too "suity" or just too plain, but it doesn't really work in this casual outfit.

Fall casual.

Nice! I can never find the courage to wear a tie without anything but a sportcoat or suit.

Lids
Baracuta
Uniqlo
Muji
Custom Chucks

Good fit and nice casual. Well done.

Chapter 1
in which acecow goes to the office, and upon seeing his perfectly-fitting shirt
gets promoted to CEO by the board; however, just in a few hours
in a shocking turn of events gets demoted back when they
notice his funny socks

Very nice. This is almost exactly the way I usually dress to the office. Details on the trous?

Jacket was something like 15 euro at a Rome open-air market 8 years ago. I'm sure something like it exists in Zara, H&M, or elsewhere. Pretty ubiquitous. Nothing special. Thanks tho :)

The flea market in Trastevere?

What a fun pile of mostly cheap junk! All wrapped around those few items that are both cheap AND worth owning.

The THRILL of the bargain!

Perhaps a contrast thing? My first thought when I looked at the picture again was, "mismatched light blue suit." Which should have kept me from wearing it.

Thanks! They are Incotex. I find them a little weird, as they are khakis that are very tapered and made from this material that almost feels and looks like satin. I wouldn't wear them in a conservative environment.

I agree- a more casual SC or blazer in the tan/ brown/gold spectrum would look good. Tweed also.Experiments are called for.
The fit of the jeans is good and the belt and shoes go well together, though

Thanks! I have a couple of tweed SC's that are getting tailored. Try again when they're done.

Also, a big problem is that the shoulders and chest are so structured. If you want a casual jacket to look good with jeans, get something with no padding and preferably unlined, too.

Edit: and by "unlined" I meant "unstructured".
