I love this thread and come back every now and then to see if anyone has updated with a new dog.
We talk about losing our pups, but sometimes it's the other way around. I've always appreciated this Landseer painting. I'm not planning to leave soon, but I do worry about my dogs should something happen. Perhaps that's why the pups feature significantly in my will. ;)

This is my purebred mutt who is now 5 and that I adopted at about 12 weeks from the pound. He’s 82 lbs of muscle and is a much better student than I am trainer. He would do backflips if I was a better trainer. He is our fist dog, we had been married many years before we were ready to commit the time that is necessary to a dog. We love dogs and didn’t feel right to have one and not give it proper time and attention. A few years ago I was commuting to our home in Colorado on a regular basis and he did the 16 hour nonstop drives with me. He loves the deer and antelope that populate our property but I have to be careful with any moose or mountain lions that are about as well as wolverines, skunks and porkys. He’s not a fancy breed dog but he gets a lot of attention when I walk him in public.
