Hello everybody,

we started the GMTO of the elegant handgrade 7-eyelet derby boot "Stroud". The GMTO excel file is here:

A short video of the boot:

The specifications of the elegant boot are the following, provided by Mr. Vigouroux of Crockett & Jones:

Dear Mr Stock,

Stroud is a 7 eyelet Handgrade Derby boot, made in 367 last.

The cost to make this boot is as following:

Single MTO: £1050 (ex-Vat £875)

GMTO with 6 participants: £869 (ex-Vat £724.17)

GMTO with 10 participants £829.50 (ex-Vat £691.25)

Plus shipping fee depending on the recipients country.

The boot in the video is made in Dark Brown Antique Calf.

If you are interested in this elegant boot, sign-up in the excel file.

Best regards

Hello everybody,

I just looked into the former GMTO offerings. Only a few GMTOs reached the minimum of 6 participants. In 2021 and 2022 many more GMTOs reached the minimum number of participants.

Hence I guess it will be unlikely for another 4 shoe aficiandos to sign-up for the "Stroud" GMTO. All former GMTO offerings were rather casual boots.

Best regards

Pascal

As far as I'm aware, C&J makes nothing for RL anymore. RL has since discovered you can have shoes built in China which when new look the same, and also sell them for the same price.

Very sad indeed. Actually it applies to the whole production, not only their shoes. The most garments are produced in lowcost work countries and the quality is no longer that of the glorious days. The prices are always (outrageously) high. Maximising profit at best (worst).

Yes, it is. They had collaborations in the past with Crockett & Jones and Edward Green, among others.
Thanks, I never wore any apparell of Ralph Lauren.

Also others, like Brooks Brothers in the USA, collaborate with C&J. There are many unworn and new shoes from Brooks Brothers made by C&J available on Ebay.

Best regards

"RL" is Ralph Lauren or so, an American Fashion brand?
Yeah, well, not per sé.

The Ralph Lauren purple label and western style RRL is some serious quality stuff, as well as many of their woolens. The cheaper Polo by Ralph Lauren label (PRL) is what you usually see in department stores. Generally speaking the quality is not necessarily bad and at 50% sale not a bad buy, but not what I would recommend.

One of my most recent pairs is also a pair of Ralph Lauren Marlow's. These were made by C&J but use regular calf leather instead of the corrected cavalry calf on the Pembroke's that C&J offer. Also double leather soles instead of Dainite and additional gemming along the welt.

I haven't really had the chance to wear them outside yet, but quite like them. They also offered them in a beautiful color cordovan, but out of my budget unfortunately.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
