ok, no pics yet, but heres the deal.

Sizing:

I sized up one full size from the CJ 348 last. The shoes fit well, but a bit more loosely than what I'd normally wear. That said, they fit well. I find the vamp to be good for a low instep.

Packaging was fine, I got two shoe bags. Wish they were flannel or similar though.

Now, the quality of the leather seems good, maybe slightly below C&J benchgrade, slightly above AE. Stitching and assembly seem to be quite good. The finishing leaves a bit to be desired though with some black or dark marks around, and some small areas where the dye didn't take or didn't reach. Overall, I'd put finishing slightly below AE.

The style and design is more european, no question. The last is pointy, but elegant. The vil would have been ridiculous I think.

Overall, for the money, I'd put the LMs slightly above AE, but not earth shatteringly so. At the price, they offer a good alternative if you like the sleeker stuff, but I reserve judgement based on longevity.

I'm happy with them though, and they exceed expectations for a shoe that runs $280 or so before shipping.

I've decided to get rid of my pair of the linea maestro dark brown double monks (New Rey last). UK 10 / US 11. Great shoes.. but the fit wasn't right for my narrow feet. I probably wore them 5 - 6 times.

Let me know if you are interested. I'll be posting soon on the buying / selling thread.

(Hope doing this is not bad form!)

Hey guys,

I have a problem with my Amas from the Classic Line. I've worn them about six or seven times now (mostly inside buildings) but they still "sqeak". They did this from the very beginning and I thought it would diminish but it didn't. None of my other shoes show this behaviour.

I uploaded it on Youtube:

I would be very grateful, if you could tell me if this is normal (what I doubt to be honest).

Best regards and thank you very much in advance!

Can you tell where the squeak is coming from? Lotta times it's the tongue rubbing against the lining. You could try sticking something in between and see if it helps. I saw someone a few years ago posted that he put some sticky-back velcro (the soft, loop side) under the strap area of his monks where they were rubbing on the tongue and squeaking.

I just checked it, the squeak does not come from the tongue. When I bend the shoes a little with my hand imitating the "deformation" when walking, the squeaking appears. It comes from the front part of the shoe (the first third approximately).

Hmm, does that mean they all have a defect or that the sqeaking is normal? I would appreciate any help before I contact Meermin.

This has been my experience too. Take some shoe conditioner and use it on the tongue and the surrounding inside areas. It might take 3-4 applications/wearings but eventually it will go away. If you're sure it's not coming from the tongue, I would still try conditioning the leather a bit wherever you think the squeak is coming from.

Thanks for your reply.

However, I'm afraid I can't attach conditioner anywhere to solve the problem because the squeaking seems to come from the sole respectively the bending of the sole when walking.
