Gaziano & Girling Appreciation & Shoe Appreciation Thread (including reviews, purchases, pictures)

I have a cherry pair of AS Moore (a poor man’s StJ2 lol) and wouldn’t wear with navy but frequently do with light and mid grey. It may be a bit menswear but I think works where I live (central DC). Why not wear them a few times to see if they work for you before recoloring?

Do you mean between resellers like RL or do you mean between different major C&J lines? My assumption is that what they sell to their retailer channels is on spec. But I can definitively say that there is a meaningful quality difference between C&J mainline and handgrade. The leather quality on...

Did Aram have a shop that was different from sky valet back in the day? I’ve only used him for a couple of things over the past year or so but he was fully remote.

    The Official-ish DC Thread

I’m client facing and wear tailored clothing every day I go to the office (which is most days since I can walk to work) but I rarely wear suits or ties. Trousers, pullover/jacket, and good shoes. For a good chunk of the year something like a PS bridge coat doubles as jacket and outerwear. i...

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

I guess I’m just not clear on what cotton does, either stylistically or functionally, that’s not done better by another fabric choice.

Can you show some pictures to demonstrate what you mean? I haven’t really any idea what you’re talking about.

Where do you use instead? I don’t know that I’ve had a jacket or suit cleaned since I moved here but have to be coming up on one at some time or another.

Not sure the Bowen stuff should count. I have a PS pair and the leather and finishing is no different than the four AS pairs I have. It took a while to get them, but thats a lot of maker these days.

I second both the suggestion to try Etta and the rec of pulatella beijg better than paradise. I‘d also try Lupo Verde which is close to AdMo

Bresca is meaningfully better than centrolina (although the latter would probably claim a more casual atmosphere. Agree on 2Amy’s and feel its underrated by too many washingtonians looking for edgier.

$450 for those EGs has got to be less than the factory at this point. They look great. On Aram‘s pick ups and dropoffs, he’s in different neighborhoods each day, so I, not sure he does it everywhere but it’s worth asking. re “handsewn” I think the deal is that he leaves the original welt in...

I dunno man. Of the three photos you’ve posted, the first is borderline, the third looks fine, and only the second looks like an issue…..but it’s tough to tell because lighting exaggerates stuff and I’d probably just see how they wear. BUT, I’d caution against basing too many opinions on the...

I’ve enjoyed plain summer tees from super dry. Same idea as Uniqlo I suppose.

Does anyone here have experience with a women’s tailor in DC? I have an 18 year-old who has clearly been paying attention over the past 10-plus years and is interested in having a suit made.

I’ve always tried brightly colored/contrasting fair isles as a quality alternative to ugly sweaters. Nice ones as well at Spier and Mackay.

The latter part of your experience doesn’t match mine at all. Both pairs (the new one and the refurbished one) took a lot of time but in both instances the quality was really outstanding. I’d definitely buy from PS again, especially if they fire up the handgrade collection again.
