You would find a big difference in huge cities... Shanghai, Beijing, HK, etc. MikeDT lives in the middle of nowhere. Speaking of Asia, Japan is a sartorial garden of eden in comparison to the US (provided you're not tall or a even slightly overweight for OTR).
Re: shoes, try different manufacturers/lasts. Keens look like crap. You can't expect dress shoes to feel like tennis shoes, but you shouldn't be uncomfortable wearing them. If the shoes don't fit, don't buy them.
I understand the point of view. One cannot expect much western sartorial relevance living in an eastern communist country. There are more important concerns driving the reasons why 80% of the population live in abject poverty.
My biggest waste has been through the procurement of shoes. I have not yet found a fit that compares to the comfort of my Keens.
