Smaller size would not fit my chest or shoulders. The buttons on the coat are designed to be asymmetrical, and it’s supposed to be longer than a normal peacoat
Longer than a normal pea coat is fine and I can see the practicalities of that.
Asymmetric buttons (and pockets) I just can’t understand or get behind. I have a USN pea coat and when fastened the two columns of buttons are symmetrical not skewed to one side (as are the pockets!)

That’s fair. Different strokes for different folks I suppose. I rocked a Schott for 11 years, enjoying this one’s quirkiness

Are you sure? The shoulders and chest definitely looks quite a bit too large, imo. I agree with @Thin White Duke that the whole coat looks a bit off as well. I wouldn't have recognized it as the PS Bridge Coat due to the way it looks on you. It's a tasteful choice other than that, though. The coat itself is very nice.

I think you're misunderstanding each other. The coat isn't supposed to have asymmetrical buttons. The two button columns swing out at the chest before narrowing again at the collar. They should still be symmetrical, just not as parallel lines. I think @Thin White Duke is trying to say that the button columns looks crooked to one side on you. I can kind of see it as well, but it's hard to tell if it's due to your stance and/or the angle of the photo.

Christmas present from the fiancé was the Private White Bridge Coat. Will need some alterations, but damn this is cozy

Even though it's a very good-looking Bridge Coat, with a fine design and expert execution, intended to enhance and flatter the person who wears it, I feel that it isn't achieving it as it should. I agree with the previous comments on taking one size less, to attain its full potential.

When I had a look at the product images of how Simon Crompton wears his design, I got the impression that it's intended to be somehow slim, close to the body, with not too much room for layering. Due to its maritime and military heritage, a Bridge Coat is, somehow, a longer, enhanced Pea Coat, made for the officers on the bridge.

The \ / shape of the buttons, very military-inspired, reinforces the figure of a slim waist and broad shoulders, even if it's just an optical image, by design. I believe that you are not taking into account this feature for yourself, talking about an asymmetric design, when in reality it is absolutely symmetric without being rigid, as shown in the next image. A different thing is that the closure is on one side, intended to add chest protection in a maritime landscape.

I think that if you decide not to change it, the amount of tailor's work needed to make it fit properly it's going to be extensive and expensive. I know what it takes, as I had to alter my peacoat a few years ago, as I commented it here, even though it wasn't as good as yours.

@Imperatores @Thin White Duke @Mercurio I see what y’all are saying now. alas it is far past the exchange window. I don’t think I should have sized down though, when I button the coat over a sweater or jacket, there is just enough room to breath comfortably. A smaller size would probably have been too tight on me. I will take pics after my tailor is done. Hopefully this wasn’t an expensive mistake

edit: I have emailed PVT White to see if they will exchange/their recommendation. Appreciate the feedback and understand y’all just trying to keep me looking good.

Hellooo! Texas keeps pretending it isn’t winter and the temperature doesn’t wanna drop. But that’s not stopping me from cranking the AC low:
