The jacket turned out well. Mock Leno is strictly a summer fabric?
Thanks.

The Minnis is absolutely a summer only jacketing because of its weight (9-10 Oz) and loose weave.

But I like the texture so much for a blazer that I’m going to look at the Smith mockleno at 12-13 Oz. And I’ve heard that Spring Ram may have a 15-16 Oz mock leno. For colder weather.

I was only able to wear this suit once before it went into storage for the autumn and winter. It‘s blue rather than grey as it renders in these photos. We found this dead stock wool/linen suiting during Tofani’s NYT truck show at Huddersfield in 2019.

Here a glance at the first fitting of a SB suit in a marvelous dark navy 6-ply fabric from Drapers/VBC during the recent TS of Aristide in Paris in the temple of parisian fabrics Lafayette Saltiel. It's nearly perfect.

do you happen to have the reference number for the 6-ply VBC/Drapers fabric?

it looks really 'sharp'. Did you go to Naples or have you been on one of Tofani's Trunk Shows.

May I also ask what the prize was?

I met them the first time in Naples at their atelier via Monte di Dio and it was wonderful. They are super skilled and dedicated tailors with an extraordinary customer service and a true family spirit and exigent inheritage. It's the second suit I make with them (my very first order was a marvellous DB overcoat). Their house cut is rather narrow to the shoulders and I asked them extended shoulders and a more comfortable cut comparing with the first suit, what they've executed perfectly. Kudos to their light canvassing technique, the 6 ply is a super heavy fabric (480gr/meter) and I barely feel it. It's rather impressive if I compare their tailoring with another neapolitan tailors I've worked with.

For the price, ask directly Aristide on Instagram, he's super reactive. It's certainly one of the most affordable known neapolitan bespoke. Of course the price will be more interesting if you go directly to Naples than in a trunk show. They work on a one fitting basis with foreign customers (except if you stay three weeks in the town).

P.-S. : here a shot of the DB Overcoat. What a piece!

Can Neapolitan tailors make a quintessentially Tuscan garment like a Casentino? Yes, if he studied under a master tailor in Tuscany. The results:

Friend had one made. Used a tailor in Tuscany, the same town where this coat originated. Orange is authentic but he said there is an option in green that is also used. Did you come across that cloth color? Jodek International has this cloth and multiple color choices.

I’ve seen two shades of green. One is a fairly conservative dark green and another is a lime green. I was tempted to go with the lime but ultimately chose the orange. The fabric was sourced by Tofani in Italy. Maybe Caccioppoli.

Is it also traditional for these coats to hit above the knee or was that a personal choice? Looks great btw.
