Anyone notice that the most recent run of Alden cordovan boots has much improved laces? The waxed cotton laces are much thicker and seem more durable. I may ask Alden for a few extras

Alden just sent me out laces for all my boots last week so hopefully I see soon.

I haven't noticed that but I did notice that the boxes seem flimsier. They no longer have the extra backing to the cardboard which gave them a little more heft.

And also, the flannel shoe bags don't have the gold balls on the end anymore, which someone pointed out previously, I believe. Could have been they were scratching the shoes.

I hate it when my balls scratch my shoes.

Yeah I did notice that as well, they are thicker and slightly wider. Downside is that they are also slightly shorter.

Maybe they need to be rubber...however brass does have it benefits. I know I don't want them removed! Although my wife has been trying for almost 30 years.

This just gets better and better.

I will say, though, that Alden shoe boxes are a step down from everything else that they do, quality-wise. I think they are the flimsiest I have seen for any dress shoe priced over $200.

The old (pre-prada) Church's used to have even flimsier boxes for their Custom grade line - made of thin sheets of laminated cardboard (the kind where the lid would wobble if you poked it). then came prada and nicer boxes, of course

boxes would be a good place to cut costs, imo, although whether necessary or not is a different question

I rather like the boxes. Simple and understated as to not distract from the treasure inside. Reminds me a lot of the 70's-80's Rolex Sport watch boxes. Flimsy cardboard for the price of gold. Nowadays it takes 2 hours just to sift through Rolex documentation alone. It just gets messy. I'd rather have the cheesy mossy rock cardboard box.

But yes, they could be thicker and nicer.

Guys, I'm in the camp of not caring - at all - about the boxes. I throw most of them out. They take up space and are likely to annoy the wife. I do save some to store shoes not used during a season. But I care very little about them so long as shoes fit inside of them.
