I've finally started wearing my 990s around the house to break them in. Sad part is I bought them in person at TSM on 07/30 and am still just getting around to wearing them. The odd part is the shell on the left seems thinner than the shell on the right. Doesn't matter though...I love them.

I'm really considering picking up these 9 eyelet cap toe boots in the black calf leather, does anyone either own or know anything about these ones?

I had checked around but couldn't really find much info online.

Not too many Hampton lasted boots out there. That should run true to size.

Just my opinion, I'm not too crazy about a calf Alden boot. For the money you could get a short wingtip boot

OR, if you're open to brown, you could get a fantastic commando-soled all purpose boot:

Someone locally near Norwalk, CT, could proxy the heck out of stuff at TSM if they were willing...especially for our friends up in Canada.

Haberdash has 1/3 off one regular priced item. They don't seem to exclude Alden. They carry some standard Alden models.
Of course the site is getting hammered right now.

^ Thanks. No luck accessing site. Took 10 minutes to get to a page for a chukka in kudu with no ability to choose a size. Oh well.

I thought long and hard about pulling the trigger on those shoes. Like I said earlier, i prefer the traditional double oak tanned leather soles (JR), so I didn't order them.
I notice that one is Plaza and one is Hampton, Waterlock/Oak, Calf/Shell, but I think you made the right choice in favoring the 9016. As you know, black shell looks great on a dress shoe.

Just curious if any one feels that the Barrie last on a boot is tighter/smaller than shoe?!?!

I see your point, but it could get really annoying when you consider all the potential sizing exchanges and returns, dissatisfaction with flaws, ect. Then you would have all these crazy Alden folks annoying the hell out of you instead of the retailer.

My experience is that there is more of a difference between style makeups on Barrie lasts (captoe versus shortwing vs longwing vs ptb vs etc..) than there is between boots and shoes on the Barrie last. You can say I am a Barrie/Trubalance specialist and all makeups I have received fit roughly all the same. I had captoe boots (two pairs out of ~20) that felt tighter than what I was used to. It might be related to the thicker band of leather used on a punched captoe that was placed more pressure on my forefoot but I was not sure.

Keep in mind that the cork footbed will break in resulting in your foot sinking down a little bit into the boots after a few wears so any pressure you feel towards the top of your feet will ease, however if you feel pressure on the sides of your feet then it is likely not a good match.

Best of luck and happy cordovan.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I think you are correct.... especially since this is the first Barrie captoe that I have worn.

Anyhow, I tried them on again this morning with thinner dress socks and confirmed they are too small. These will be going up for sale in the Marketplace tonight. If anyone is interested, let me know.... $545 retail from Epaulet, I am thinking $450 shipped CONUS. An expensive lesson in the nuances of Alden sizing :(

I actually just went there to buy some 403s. They just so happened to have only size 7 and 12 and guess what which size I happen to be? It's destiny that my big feet shall finally be clad in these. But in all seriousness, these will be my first Aldens. Not my first good boot or shoe and certainly not my first CXL pair, but I'm still super excited. And now I can not feel weird contributing!

Worked for me on some snuff longwings with crepe sole.
