Today’s gear screamed of black shell. So of course I went with the chameleon’s, OB. Never seen footwear whose color is so impacted by lighting………

What kinds of belts do you all like to wear with color 8 shell shoes (other than a matching color 8 shell belt)?
I left the matchy matchy thing behind quite some time ago. I just go with it. So dark brown calf and dark brown cordovan as well as black calf I also wear gold and silver metal hardware on accessories and it does not bother me. One of the most overrated "menswear rules" in my mind

Quite an interesting delivery landed yesterday...while inspecting these Grant Last NST boots, something was different between the two shoes, but I couldn't figure it out! Then it dawned on me! The welt!

The right boot has a 360 reverse welt

But the left boot has a 360 flat welt

Already reached out to the retailer and they were in shock! Even they didn't catch that before shipping out to me. A return shipping label is already in my inbox and a very interesting question now stands...should I make these both flat welt (as the retailer intended) or have Alden add a reverse welt to match the other?

We're also asking Alden which procedure is less intensive/intrusive: to add a reverse welt, or remove a reverse welt. Either way, a very interesting turn of events and curious which you would choose given this opportunity?

Wouldn't it be even less intrusive if they just got you a new pair?

Hi All, trying to get my holiday shopping in and had another sizing question - does anyone have experience with both Alden boots and derbies in the same last? I have a pair of Plaza last derbies from Brogue I am eyeing, and I was only able to try on a pair of boots in the Plaza last at my local shop, and they were slightly too big for comfortable for me.

Any chance Alden boots run a little bigger even for the same last and same listed size? Or should I just let it go haha. For context, as some of you know, I wear a US 7D on the Aberdeen NSTs and the boots I was able to try on were US 7D Plaza last.

This is crazy! I would definitely just ask for a fresh pair versus taking the risk with changes to the welt, which I personally think carries one of the highest risk in terms of alterations to a shoe.

As much as I love Alden, I can't say something like this was completely out of my imagination. If it were me I couldn't do anything but take a moment and have a laugh.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
