Leisure Sunday. Alden Color #8 Shell Cordovan LHS.

Here’s something odd: I’m in Savers browsing through the shoes. I look down. Could it be? The first pair of Aldens I’ve ever seen in the wild in a thrift store? I pick up the first one. Oh my goodness. It’s a 6845 Shell Cordovan loafer. I pick up the left, and it is a 681– in a different size. I’m guessing that somebody donated two similar looking pairs of shoes and someone else while browsing inadvertently grabbed the alternate right and left combo. Oh well.

I found a pair like this. It was a mismatched pair of black AE and Alden tassel loafers. I was luckily able to find the other pair and just bought the Alden ones.

Finally a pair of cap toe #8 seconds popped up in my size. Unfortunately the reason they’re seconds seems to be 2 small nicks in one of the toes

Guess I’ll have to decide if it bothers me that much, or if it’ll just blend in with wear. I’m not to concerned about them having an issue down the line but who knows.

Steve at bedos leatherworks could probably fix it for you. Otherwise, I would just wear them, or try a deer bone. Might be able to rub them out with enough elbow grease.

For me, this would be inconsequential. You will put another nick on it by end of the first week of wearing most likely. A little of cream and or water and rubbing it out with a spoon, deer bone, or burnishing stick followed by the brief brushing would take that out.

If these were new 1sts at full price, then you may want to pass for a cleaner pair.

Thanks. Maybe when it came time for a resole I’d look at him or Wyatt and Sons (who I’ve used before on another pair of boots). Wouldn’t be worth it when new.

Thanks, that’s how I’m leaning. They’d be my primary boots and I’m not trying to keep them pristine anyways. Just harder with the cost of seconds going up!

You’d have to wear them really really hard for those nicks to be an issue down the road. If that is the extent of the defect, I’d consider myself fortunate and happily start wearing them.

You won’t even notice this in a few months. Shoes get beat up as you wear them. You have to fight that part of your brain.
