It is time to express your opinion on these non-AE shoes. Are they shell? I do not know the answer yet, but I will know when they arrive. They are by Grenson out of England, who has made shell cordovan shoes before, but I can't find anything on this model. So, what say you?

Furious googling has led me to an old “Ask Andy” post in which someone claims to have had a Grenson in Whiskey Shell (but it may have been a sample)…not this model, but another little piece of evidence. Also: I’m seeing something about potential Paul Stuart makeups. Do you have other pics?

Edit: I found the listing pics. This is a tough question!

Tough indeed. The other pictures were not really helpful so I did not include them. I have seen where Grenson made a LWB in blue shell. I guess I shall see sooner or later.

Well this isn’t good. I was putting my boots away today and noticed something very bad. The whiskey boots are peeling, wtf?

Just a thought, but it looks like the area was exposed to high heat. Like a motorcycle exhaust.
Nope, what you see is simply crocking, from the selvedge jeans I wore with them that day.

Never seen that happen before. I wonder if that was just a defective batch of Horween shell. I guess I might try brushing that and see if it will come off and then condition it.
I’m not sure either, I‘ve got an exorbitant amount of Horween shell, none have exhibited this. I had to peel it off, it looks like an acrylic coating. I’ll have to figure out how to remove it from both pairs completely.

I’d say ask over in the Alden thread. They might have an idea. It’s a fairly common practice for Alden fans to remove an acrylic layer from their shell boots.
