7.5 D in Barrie, 7 G in Craftsman and Turnout.

I see. Thank you for that info and this does seem to be the general consensus.

I'm an 8G in the craftsman, but am eyeing some 9D Barrie lasted boots instead of the 8.5D partially because I'd like to be able to wear thicker winter socks with them and partially because I've spent far too much cash of late on boots that eventually turned out to be slightly too small for me so I'd prefer to err on the side of caution.

Did you try on the Barrie in your proper numerical size? (8D?) Was it big enough that a thicker sock or thin insole couldn't remedy if you so chose to use them?

I went down .5 based on my first pair of Alden shoes which were Leydon lasted. I have no problem wearing thicker socks (e.g. something moderate like the Thorlo light hiker socks) in both my Barrie lasted Alden's and RMW's. I wear a lot of Vans (sz. 8) on the weekends and am unable to wear the the Thorlo socks in those, if that is helpful in anyway.

Is it possible to have a boot resoled to a smaller size?

My black craftsman are 10.5H but the rest of my boots are a 10.5G.

I wouldn't mind getting it resoled so they're all the same size.

I see, thanks.

Well, the 8.5's are gone (and who knows when this stuff gets restocked) so I think I can manage with a 9D (i'm an 8G RMW).

It can be done.

I wore an 8H craftsman which I had initially bought during a winter and so paired thicker socks. However, I soon moved back to the tropics so didn't have much use for thick winter socks (and have other boots for that now). When I got them recrafted (needed a new lining, resole etc.), I asked the shop attendant to specify that they be relasted to a G width. Easily done, and a couple of months later (it was during the christmas break when the factory's shut for a few months) I got my relasted, resoled and snugger and correctly fitted craftsmans.

Note however that if the elastics on mine were not changed, so they're a bit bigger than they should be on the boot. They're by no means worn out, so perhaps that's why they weren't replaced by the factory. If you think it would bother you be sure to specify that you want the elastics replaced too or something (I didn't even think to do so).

So the unsightly creases developed by wearing a too large boot were stretched out - but unfortunately there is already some cracking, so their days are numbered anyway.

Note also that my 8G's (2 pairs) insole lengths are about 27.5cm heel to toe, and the 8H is 28cm. The relasting didn't change this (interestingly enough a pair of riggers in 8.5G also are 28cm heel to toe, which makes me wonder what difference there is between the H fitting and just a half size larger).

Incidentally, would any of you chaps happen to own a pair of Vibergs in the 2030 last?
Any chance of a size comp between your RM's and them? :D

Hey

Anyone interested in purchasing RM Williams boots in Sydney. The retail store in Westfield Sydney is having a sale, 2 for $700, in yearling or suede. If anyone is interested in purchasing a pair with me, let me know.

Just received my boots today! I'll take pictures tomorrow. Very sweet boots. A bit snug when I tried them on after a 14 hour day but they look really nice.

I hope these break in nicely, a bit snug right now. Already thinking of getting another pair after I assess the fit.

They're always snug like that when first bought. They need to be worn in, and then they'll become super comfortable for you. But it'll take a little time.

@TheWraith, thanks that's good to know! For what it's worth, I was surprised as the sole feels like the most comfortable thing I ever stepped on and the calf feels so soft and luxurious. It makes me wonder how comfortable the comfort craftsmen would be.

@DrP00b Thanks! I didn't even think about it haha. That probably wasn't very smart but they're boots and they didn't really scuff so it's not the end of the world :D.
