Came across this post and I'm intrigued by the side pockets. I can't imagine this being only a yohji thing. Anything similar or what would I search for when looking for this particular pocket?

@thats.mana Those pass-through pockets were a classic feature on vintage trenchcoats and balmacaans (there's usually a roomy open top pocket sitting slightly lower on the inside of the coat so stuff doesn't just fall through).

I've most often seen them on older coats from Burberry/Aquascutum/etc but they show up on similar classic outerwear brands (Grenfell, Invertere, some Daks coats...) and non-branded coats in the same general style, usually some kind of traditional raincoat or balmacaan design, usually British made. Makes sense that SEH Kelly coats have them.

I think some loden coats may have them too.

One of my Lodens (the most trad one) has it, it is apparently one of the definitional characteristic of a Loden so that makes sense.

any decent luggage that isn’t priced like Rimowa or Globetrotter ? Ideally I’d get a set of vintage Louis Vuitton trunks but I don’t have a porter or a private jet to go with them

I don’t think you need a jet for the LV trunks. Ideally, you’d want a steamer ship or maybe a private rail sleeper car!

For something domestically made I’ve been happy with Zero Halliburton. No zippers, clamping hardware, not too heavy.

Incidentally a buddy of mine just took a ship from the UK to NYC…and another was on a sleeper train from Scotland down to London after his late night flight was cancelled

Sleeper trains are the best. And they are expanding again now all over Europe. It's a real shame (and a bit environmental problem) that the US and Canadian rail networks aren't fit for purpose...

Is zipper-less superior?

I have a Zero Halliburton (2, actually - one aluminum and one polycarbonate) and kinda suspect zippered might be better. When I compare my ZHs to my partner's Mono (zippered) bag, her's seems to handle overpacking a lot better. I can always get mine closed after a lot of sweat and tears, but usually not without obstructing the telescopic handle.

I did make the mistake of buying the International Carry On size as my main go-to, so that's a factor.

You can also look at FPM Milano. I've been hovering around this one for a minute now:

Briggs and Riley. I've had mine for about 15 years and it's still in excellent shape. I've got the 'baseline' expandable carry-on, but it looks like they also make some hard-shell. Lifetime free repairs, no questions asked.
