If I'm getting a western belt made, what's the difference between harness or bridle leather? It'll likely be black if that makes a difference.
Bridle leather has more oils in it, and is more supple. I like it more for belt. Harness is nice and more traditional for western belts, and built for strength. It is stiffer though, and ime and is a bit more brittle.

Thanks for this. Just realized the black belt I have that I wear most for workwear type outfits is bridle, which makes me lean that direction despite harness being more traditional for western belts. The belt I am looking to have made will be worn more with, I guess you could say, neo-western type fits that are more like workwear or Lemaire than a true cowboy.

NOLA isn't really a menswear city but Friend in the Ace Hotel is kinda cool. You can also pop into UAL while you're walking around the Quarter
Staying in the Ace Hotel for the first night so checked out Friend. Very cool, bought a couple tanks because it’s too damn hot. Also checked out Iron Shop Provisions down the street - nice selection of raw denim and workwear. Will check out UAL tomorrow.

is Todd Snyder quality at all? Saw a nice jacquard there....
The stuff is usually decently made. In my experience, about the same as other things of the same price levels.

Came across this post and I'm intrigued by the side pockets. I can't imagine this being only a yohji thing. Anything similar or what would I search for when looking for this particular pocket?

You’ll have to look for vintage coats and even then some have it and some don’t.

SEH Kelly’s balmacaan is the only modern one that I know with the pocket like that.

Visible Pick Stitching on Lapels and Pockets

  • It’s a mark of quality and craftsmanship

  • I like it when it’s subtle

  • I don’t like visible stitching

  • Doesn’t matter to me
