What type of questions are you asking him? I've gotten responses within 3 days and was asking nothing regarding MTOs?

I was talking to him on a thread where I put in an order for 11 pairs of shoes. (I sent him 4-5 email over 20 days and only then got a reply)
Its hit or miss with him. But he runs an entire company so I can't really fault him.

Ive received all the samples for the new Park last; wholecut and oxford. Personally, the last looks nicer as an oxford. Size wise, its somewhere in between Olfe and Hiro but gravitating more towards the Olfe.

I'll post some pictures soon.

hm, that is actually quite poor customer service, he should invest in personnel to answer customer enquiries.

I want that same shoe also. I would be in if you could arrange a group MTO with enough people (6?) to waive the MTO upcharge.
I am also in for a group order, I sadly don't have the time right now or knowledge to make it happen. If people can wait a 3 to 4 months, things should be more settled for me and I can look into it. Anyone who has done this before know how to get it done/want to take over?

We are looking to get a group buy of these:

Not really in my opinion.

I can directly talk to Pepe this way.
Otherwise I would not get to talk to the HEAD of an company.

They do have dedicated staff for this:
If you want a fast responce you can always talk to Luisa or info. They almost always reply in 1-2 days.

Can anyone advice me on what size i should take. I have a low instep.
I have a Loake Cannon in 9.5F >> Feels a bit loose which 9F might feel better

I emailed Meermin and this is what they gave me for their Hiro Last.

HIRO
L 306 mm shoe outsole 9UK
W 107 mm shoe outsole 9UK
L 288 mm last insole 9UK
W 103 mm last insole 9UK
Foot 27.1 cm 9UK

L 311 mm shoe outsole 9.5UK
W 108 mm shoe outsole 9.5UK
L 292 mm last insole 9.5UK
W 104 mm last insole 9.5UK
Foot 27.6cm 9.5UK

9.5UK seems the right measurement after I measured my feet. I am not so sure what to take because if the shoes have a higher instep, I might need to size down to 9UK. For me, most shoes that I put insoles in would usually makes everything too tight.

Thanks!!

I've tried both the Hiro and Capital lasts, both in size 9.5. Those were both the right size for me although I judged the Hiro as being a bit too snug in the toe box.

As far as I remember the Capital last is roomier all round. But I only tried calf boots in this last (Loake Hyde). I tried suede oxfords in the Hiro, so the comparison may not be perfect. I do not have the Hiro in my possession anymore (otherwise I could re-compare right now and also post some pictures)

I agree with wurger. It's a bad business model. Surely the head of the company has a lot more important things to do than answer a single client's question about leather color or last sizing. With the volume of orders much higher and lower margin than bespoke, it doesn't make much business sense when his time is a lot more valuable than a front-line personnel. 80/20 rule.

That may be true.

I think Pepe enjoys making shoe just as much as he likes making money.
Thats why I think he leaves the ability for MTO and folks that are on the bleeding edge of footwear to talk to him directly.
I am sure he likes interesting footwear conversation just as much as the rest of us :)

All in all its not just about the take home $ figure.

Look I agree that customer service, particularly with online is important and I think online users or at least those on styleforum value good customer service highly but the reality is we don't know their business or its profitability. Hiring people costs money, hiring new staff takes up existing staffs time training and getting use to systems and in terms of pepe and MTOs any new staff member is just going to be sitting their asking him questions anyway because often the answers are specialised.

On top of that Meermins seems pretty flat out as it is so hiring someone and getting quicker turn around times just means more orders coming in...which sounds great in theory but could well be a bad thing if they can't meet the time frames becase they are already @ capacity. 3 months is long enough to wait without further delays because they are punching above their capacity.

Is that classic snuff or maracca suede penny loafer? If it was LM snuff or maracca I might consider. They really ought to have LM suede as a standard and not just classic.
