I have tried to speak to UPS, but I just got fed up with being connected to an endless number of people where none could even remotely explain the basis for this charge. I simply don't have the time or the energy to fight this, so I bit the bullet and paid up. Depending on how Meermin will handle this, I'll decide on whether I will consider making future orders or not.
Look a few pages back in this thread, and you'll see that meermin used the wrong customs code. Doesn't seem to hard to rectify if you know both the codes. Or you could just contact that poster and ask him how he solved it.

Why can't meermin just use registered mail. I've ordered shoes from the UK that came out to about 200 dollars (the price of meermin) and there were no duties because they sent them registered mail. Also, this has been a problem from day 1. I wan't a pair and so do other people in my family, but the shoes are 200 dollars just about, not 300 after duties. Part of the appeal of it is that they're so inexpensive. People here for a LM end up paying C&J prices.

So I did talk to Luisa and they said they got the codes fixed and it is a 5% tax
I dont know man, I would probably go talk to them or use the number from a few pages ago and talk to danny. To get a refund atleast. Or possibly have meermin call ups telling them the orders they shipped with the wrong code.

How did you find the width/fit on the ama last? Did you go a full size down or half a size relative to your US size?

I am a "true" US 10.5 and these are 9.5 in meermin's sizing. The fit is pretty good- width seems to be comparable to a standard US d width. I also have a pair of double monks on the hiro last, also in 9.5 and the fit feels pretty similar.

My first go at Goodyear welted shoes and I am very pleased with the result. Email conversation with Luisa took 3 days, the shoe was ready to be shipped within a week. I received the shoe 4 days later. From start to finish it took 2 weeks and that included discussion on specific shoe availability. Very pleased with the speed of communication by Luisa and Sandro. Regarding the shoe, no defects apparent and shoe fit was spot on. Will be looking at the chukkas and oxfords in the near future.

Looking to pick up the LWB in suede with the double leather sole. Can anyone comment on the roundness/clunkiness? I will wear it mostly with jeans, so don't want it too sleek.
