came back to this thread and read over this...i loved your description of the old man from the train, very vivid, but the passage i quoted right here is beautiful i think and what everyone should strive for in their personal style, regardless of what they are wearing. The moment you feel like your clothing flows so well and feels so natural that you feel in control, and that anyone who walks by you will notice the whole presentation as a complete statement of what you represent. At that point it's not even what you're wearing, or who you are, it all just gels. I live for these kind of moments...

Yves Montand in "Le choix des armes" is among the best suited character I've seen, running the gamut from gentleman farmer to impeccably dressed city dweller.
