It's perfectly reasonable that I may be incorrect here, but don't you own a bright red tartan jacket?
I do not. I do own a red flannel blazer. I also have a Blackwatch tartan, Gordon tartan, and McLeod of Harris sport coats.

Yeah, I think my brain was putting the two together. Looking back through your Insta though, the reason I ask is that the solid blazer just feels like the wrong choice for all of that together when there's an option to do a tartan (that is hopefully yet again different from the others already in use). It certainly would have been louder, but I think the overall effect would have been more cohesive and impactful.

I hear you. I have a McLeod of Harris tartan sportcoat, but it’s a worsted fabric. It didn’t look right to me with the rest unless I ditched the vest.

Thanks so much. They were a Covid treat to myself when the world stopped turning and we were all stuck at home!

They are the Morjas Penny Loafers in
Burgundy Grain - they’ve held up very well in the 4 years I’ve had them.
You’re lucky.
I tried a pair of Morjas in very elusive burgundy grain. I got the last pair. They were the best fitting pair of loafers I ever tried but I sent them back. I get so pissed off with Morjas because I can’t tell the difference between their burgundy, brown and black shoes. Even on their website pics, presumably taken under optimal lighting conditions, it’s hard to tell the difference. I wanted burgundy pebble grain loafers in an actual obvious red colour like these …

I even wrote to them recently including the above pic and got the usual standard polite reply but they’re not changing. The above loafers are from Blackstock and Webber (I had my cobbler shave off the ridiculously clunky rims) but they still don’t fit nearly as good as the Morjas. The jump boots were a custom order for Meeemin.

Your loafers don’t look quite as dark as mine were. Maybe it’s just the lighting or maybe you were lucky with a lighter shade. It’s easy to make shoes darker but almost impossible to lighten them. I still dream of one day owning a pair of well-fitting burgundy grain loafers in red, not near-black. Is that so much to ask?

(I did see a lightweight Blake stitched pair from a on obscure Spanish brand online once but of course they were sold out in my size!)

Can anyone put me out of my misery?

I think I clearly got quite lucky with the colour as they are definitely burgundy, not brown. They are perhaps even a shade lighter than my beloved Loake Eton’s but you can see they both have a burgundy tinge even in this dreary weather!

On a separate note, are the Loake’s on the left worth saving? I bought them for £20 in 2011 and have resoled them about 4/5 times but the inside is pretty mangy now and the leather is starting to deteriorate at the back of the shoe…

Some dead dinosaurs and me at the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum.

IMG_8295.jpeg

Dunn & Co. Harris Tweed jacket, Brooks Brothers tie and sweater vest, L L Bean OCBD shirt, J. Crew brown corduroy trousers, and Allen-Edmonds suede shoes.

Went to see the new green dead dinosaur in the new room (NHM Commons) that opened yesterday.

The new green dead dinosaur wasn't very green and the new room was just a big mostly empty tin box.

There are rooms filled with dead dinosaurs at the museum. The older rooms at the museum are better looking than the newer rooms.

The sculpture in the rotunda looked better before the museum stuck the green signs near it.
