I am back with 2 deer down and a lot of great venison. I used a 30-06 with a 220 grain round. The rifle was a savage. I liked it.

That is a manly round. Do you have a muzzle brake on that to handle the recoil?

A muzzle brake for a 30.06? I can see using one for a magnum cartridge but not a 30.06

A Muzzle break? It's not a .50 cal beowulf, lol. The first deer I took down I didn't even feel the recoil. It was a sweet ass shot through some trees at 127 yards, i was in the zone. The second deer was at 76 yards behind a bunch trees , I got buck fever and tried to nab a head shot so it took a few rounds but when I made contact it dropped like a sack of potatoes. I fired 5 rounds from the 30-06 all with 220grain and I never once thought it was anything I couldn't shoot all day but then again I am a manly man ;)

The 30-06 is a venerable round if ever there was one. I don't think I've ever shot 220s out of it though -- mostly I plink with a Springfield and Ball ammo.

The worst recoiling thing I have ever shot was the Ruger M77 in .458 Win. Mag. that my father bought on a lark (it was a good deal). We took it to the range and shot it only that one time, maybe three rounds a piece. My head still hurts thinking about it. Modern brakes make .50 BMGs far more pleasant to shoot. But the Ruger is a pretty gun with the Express sights and the swivel band.

My 1943 Turkish Mauser in 8mm left my shoulder black and blue the first time I shot that. It was actually the first gun I ever shot, followed by my Remington 870 12 gauge. Imagine my relief when my friend handed me his Winchester .22 long rifle. I stuck with that for the rest of the day.

I have a muzzle brake on my Remington 700 30-06. I guess I am just a giant wuss but 220 is more than I would be comfortable firing with it. Even with the brake I don't shoot above 180.

I have a Remington 700 in 30-06 as well. It's the hardest-kicking centerfire rifle I've ever shot (and I've shot a few 7mm Magnums, etc.). I'm not sure why, but even a few shots from that rifle leave my shoulder aching. I can shoot a 12 gauge shotgun all day long, but not my 30-06. :(

I placed an order for a Crossbreed mini-tuck for my upcoming PM9. Turnaround time is around 3-4 weeks so I figured I'd wait to buy the gun until I have something to carry it in. These holsters are supposed to be some of the most comfortable on the market. I also backordered 1,000 rounds of blazer brass 9mm that is supposed to come in on 12/31. We shall see.

I have a .270 Winchester. I figured this cartridge is just as effective ad a 30.06 with a little less recoil. Add a limb saver and your set

30-06 should kick roughly like 308, not too bad... speaking of I just got a 1909 Mauser Modelo Argentino, 7.65 Argentine cal. (7.65 x 53). Can't wait to get it. Unfortunately will have to take it to a gunsmith for proper head spacing prior to shooting.:D

Scored a Ruger 10/22 in stainless steel for Mrs. Piob today. She wants a purple picatinny and scope rings.

I shot two rounds of Skeet today followed by two rounds of wobble. It was very interesting to see how the two games varied so much. I shot wobble so much better than skeet. In skeet stations 1 and 5 are be far the easiest. 6 is the most fun. 2 sucks for me while 3 and 4 are ok. Compare that to wobble I shoot the best on 2,3, and 4. crazy.
