I just read EG,for the first time about six months ago. Great story, I understand the love for it. As a film however, I think it will work better to compress the time scheme for ender,s recruitment, training, and deployment if for no other reason to conserve on actor revisions across multiple characters. Age change from 9 to 14 can be dramatic and would be visually volatile. I also agree with the poster above that enders,s mature intelligence may not read well on screen because it needs to be asserts so early. I also don't think Card,s core device of needing the emotional purity of play / youth in order to commit atrocities without second guessing themselves or becoming monsters is not undermined by confining the age range of the characters to 14 ish. As to the Maori tattoos on Mazor, it seems like a good visual device to explain his history and warrior roots. I,m looking forward to the movie but i don't think it will have the same impact as the book.
