You don't want to live in Bangkok. I just got back from there for a month. It's such a dirty city and the humidity is unbelievable.

I hate to say it, especially I'm a Thai citizen, but it is true.......

However, there are some nice spots which you can go to and they are NOT too bad, cleanliness wise. I guess it really depends on where you go. This is true to all of the places in the world.

I've been to places in the US and there were nasty!

I'm changing my vote to Honolulu. Benefits are mostly obvious, and after doing a little research while on holiday there, much less expensive than I thought. Only drawback is that I would get bored at times so I'd need to have a sizeable airfare budget, learn Japanese and spend lots of time traveling to Asia and SoCal. Air travel is pretty reasonable by my standards in terms of both price and distance.

The locals, to me, are insufferable hicks.

I agree. I'd get island fever pretty quick

Definitely. Couldn't live on an island I don't think.

Now, the mountains? Could definitely live in the mountains. Not sure what my dream town would be though... I'd say Boulder except the crunchy types would drive me crazy pretty quickly.

awww...the locals are pretty cool, if a bit unsophisticated. Sorry that your experience was different. They do move as slow as **** though

Firenze

I grew up near there and have always said I will have a home there, if I win the lottery.

Cheers,

If just going by places I've been to. I'll say Charleston, New Orleans, Boston or New York (Harlem). Mainly because I like the cultures, food and access to the sea. Maybe Kingston but it gets mad hot there and tho I am supposed to understand patwa I still get lost. If I included places I've never been Switzerland's cities have always seemed interesting to me, also maybe somewhere in Britain that isn't London or Accra for the adventure.

Great responses so far, I'm very interested in doing a few 2-3 year stints in some European, Asian and North American cities: Hong Kong, Chicago, NYC, Berlin, Copenhagen, Istanbul, etc, etc, etc (I'm pretty curious about the world!)

this thread made me wonder about my future. Places like sydney, perth, sanfran all seem very tempting to me.

Im living in London for 9 months by now cos of a master but it hasnt been all flowers. even though its a big city with a lot of facilities and a rock scene that i appreciate, this weather is just too depressing. maybe is just the anxiety coming from the course but the idea of extending my stay to work is barely on my mind anymore.

For a italian/brazilian (double nationality) how does it work to live in places like aus and us (imagine not that easy)??
