That's the great (well, maybe not) think about the public service - you can dress pretty much how you like and in most cases, it won't affect your chances of advancement.

I know someone who's now in the Senior Executive Service (SES) and until he was made an EL2, he used to wear battered, scuffed black Doc boots to work. Now he's changed to wearing RMW elastic-sided boots.

Another person, who's now an EL1 in IT, routinely wears shorts to work, which plainly display a rather large and badly-done tattoo of a musical instrument on his calf.

other than the SES, i'm pretty much the only male in my entire division of 200 or so that wears a tie (no suit, though). personally i don't think doc shoes look that awful for work, although i wouldn't necessarily wear them with a proper suit (bad fit, but gives an idea - http://www.styleclicker.net/wp-cont...9-doc-martens-paris-rue-de-saint-honore-2.jpg). i've seen one FAS in a pair of church double monks, but as you pointed out, RMW seem to the popular choice for SES while APS/ELs are often in elasticated plastic monstrosities with pointy toes. shorts would be a no-no regardless of which division you're in.

Thought Coxsackie was in executive styles latest article about habits of well dressed men. Turns out it was a lookalike.

A Coxsackie lookalike on the loose?

The horror. The horror.

Italian smallgoods redux:

I eventually scored some pappardelle at (of all places) Harris Farm in Edgecliff Centre.

Cotechino sausage was much trickier. Fortunately I was in Melbourne for a few days and after much ringing-around, I was able to track down some cotechino at Donati's Fine Meats on Lygon St.

I've already cooked one of them - traditional Cotechino con Lenticchie - and the other one is waiting in the fridge.

Traditionally it's eaten at Xmas, but given that it's very much a hearty winter dish, I decided not to wait.

Thanks everyone for the smallgoods grocery tips.

Financial sector is definitely getting more aware of #menswear footwear. I've already been complimented twice on my Islays and had conversations about Saphir, C&J and Carmina, in a space of about 2 months... Go figure.

Canberra Squad:

1. LonerMatt (me) is moving to Canberra January 2017
2. Girlfriend wants to live in the inner northish, which means I'll probably be riding my bike to where-ever I work
3. I'm much less obnoxious face to face, a few of the forumites can confirm, or deny
4. GF and Jason let's hang out - I like art and mountains so we're good

General thread
Now that the GBP is dropping against the AUD maybe I should start a proxy business until I leave (semi-joking but IIRC pediwear won't ship to Australia anymore so if you're in need of help you've got until Christmas to get in touch)

Sounds good Matt. You'll really enjoy Canberra I think especially being so close to the Brindies if you like to get out in Nature, but also plenty of close bush around Bruce and Black Mtn to the inner north.
And while you'll hear people whinge about cyclists around town like you do everywhere, the Cycling infrastructure is probably the best in Australia.

Matt pass my congratulations on to your gf. Send me a PM and I can provide some advice about renting and other advice about living in the inner north.

Gastroporn interlude; Truffle season is just about to end so a last indulgent supper planed for this weekend.
