Question for Big John jean owners:

It took awhile but I had my 12 oz. reg. straight Big John jeans hemmed.

The hem is right where I want it for boot wear. I have only worn them once so I have not washed them yet. The instructions say no dry cleaning and warm water washing but I'm concerned about any shrinking.

I'm wondering if I should use cold water to lessen any shrinking?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

On edit: Just checked out NMWA site. It says "sanforized denim for minimal shrinkage". So, maybe water temp doesn't matter?

Any hints on incoming fall/winter Port Flannel? Like maybe a return of the CPO jacket from last year, in other colorways? Just maybe?

I am excited about my Norwegian rain bum freezer. Those must be trickling in at some point in the next month or two.

Yes, hopefully soon!

In the meantime, we got a big shipment from Farnese and Willy and I restocked a ton of styles for you guys. I know we've been getting a lot of calls and emails about these for a while now so this is long overdue, and I imagine a lot of you got OOS notification alerts on these, but if you didn't, go ahead and check your favorite style anyway - it has almost certainly been restocked in your size.

Shrinking is inevitable when washing denim in water - even cold water and a hang dry, which is what I would strongly suggest if you're going to wash them any time soon. You'll still lose a bit though, so in your situation you might be stuck with dry-cleaning maybe. It's a tricky proposition to hem denim before it's been washed, even if it's pre-shrunk denim.

Couldn't hurt, but it's more about the drying than the washing. Just give them a bit of a stretch before hanging/laying flat to dry.

The instructions state- No dry cleaning.

I always thought you want to wear jeans a bunch before you wash them for fades. Well, if they shrink .25" it probably won't kill things but I didn't think it through.....

With temps currently being in the high 90s, I hear you. Looking much forward to Winter and rigorous bum freezing.

Struggled with paralysis of choice and went with partial #3 last minute (one of the made up examples... lack of imagination I guess

I liked #3 the best. I would have ordered one if I could've done so without the partial mustard threads. Or using the brown matching threads as the partial, if desirable, for internal webbing structure.

Oh well, maybe the plain brown will be a stock item next year.

Yes, someone can correct me If I'm wrong but I don't think it will hurt them. And you're right - wear them as long as you are comfortable wearing them before washing, and then hand-wash cold or machine wash gentle and hang or lay to dry. That said, if you're right with a quarter inch or so then no need to worry, I was thinking you had things just right and any shorter would be awkward. No need to worry! The only thing left to do now is wear them :)

Visible Pick Stitching on Lapels and Pockets

  • It’s a mark of quality and craftsmanship

  • I like it when it’s subtle

  • I don’t like visible stitching

  • Doesn’t matter to me
