The Official Thrift / Discount Store Bragging Thread Part III (Sept 2018-)

Forgive the intrusion but figured folks here would know best. Is the tie featured here a fake? https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/12/20/smarter-living/how-to-tie-a-tie.html?algo=identity&fellback=false&imp_id=624788763&imp_id=664027362&action=click&module=Smarter%20Living&pgtype=Homepage

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

No, you're not missing anything, and yeah, taking a breath would be a good idea. My concern, largely, is in the what-if arena: Would eBay side with her if she demands I pay for shipping, is my accepting a return an acknowledgement that I screwed up and so she's entitled? I don't do this enough...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Yep, I took it back and refunded the money. We didn't discuss return shipping. She paid $13.65 and crammed it into a flat-rate box. I had sent it standard in a small U-Haul box for south of $10.

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

BB is rare here, but your point is a good one. Just sold a BB tweed sport coat that I had to relist four times. Still trying to break my BB shirt habit--the right ones fetch around $25, but it usually takes multiple re-listings. Only worth it if you can snag them for south of $5, which I can and...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

She formally requested a return, I refused. Here's what she wrote after I declined the return (contrary to her message, my listings clearly state that I don't take returns): "Your details state you accept returns and so I am resending my request. I am unable to resell this coat as it smells as...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

No SNAD case opened--yet. She requested a return, I said no, return case was closed, then she claimed there was an odor and threatened to open a case, presumably SNAD. And, yes, in her initial request for a return, she said the coat was beautiful (it is) and raised no issues other than it did...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

A quick update to the saga of the sheared beaver/cashmere coat. It arrived back today. Crammed into a tiny flat-rate priority box so that it is now rumpled and wrinkled. Also covered in cat hair. Of course, it had no odor--it had none when it was sold. I had sent it out standard in an...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Yeah, I was figuring I was already in the clear given her first message, and so I'm glad I checked here before telling her to shove it. Unfortunately, she's given two reasons, the first of which seems most believable, given that the second is horse pucky.

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Yes, that's what I did this morning, thanks to guidance from folks here. And you're absolutely right--no way that coat had an odor, other than the smell of sheared beaver, which... Oh, never mind. But, yes, I think I'm getting screwed. I was silent on subject of who pays for shipping. If she...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Amen, brother, and lesson learned. Almost never go for chick stuff, but the piece was too cool to resist--Hugo Boss cashmere coat in deep chocolate with sheared beaver (I'm a sucker for sheared beaver) collar. My sense is, I'll have to take it back. I don't take returns because I ain't Warby...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Question on eBay return policies. Sold a coat to a buyer who requested a return. Love the coat, she wrote in her request to return--that's a quote--but doesn't fit. I declined the return. Now, she's threatening to open a case, claiming that the coat has an odor. What should I do?

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Been awhile. Not sure if this has been brought up--I'm sure it probably has--because I haven't read the thread (sorry), but just an FYI FWIW. Ran into some sneakers recently, and boy, never again. You have to sell the same pair three or four times before you connect with a buyer who actually...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Thanks. Learn something new every day.I learned the hard way about shipping to unverified PP addresses a few years ago. Had my account frozen and got all kinds of nasty threats from PP. There was apparently some concern about fraud, which I never understood (and which PP refused to...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Scoundrel (I think) alert. Sold a pair of shoes to a guy in Texas. I specify a three-day turnaround, but usually get things out quicker. This week, I didn't, and yesterday, the day before I had to get the shoes in the mail, I get a message from the guy: "Just confirming you got my email...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Did you try again? I don't have a huge amount of selling activity, barely 100 transactions in the past year.

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

I've had really good luck getting through to eBay the last three or four times I've had to do it--pretty much an instant connection. I well recall the days when you had to hold for an hour or more, but that, for me at least, has been years.

But then I wouldn't get to wear it here, where every other person you see is a diehard Cubs fan.

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Did you say that you used a tape measure? Hope you meant a tailor's tape as opposed to a carpenter's tape measure. I don't think that there is anything you can do about this. eBay reps aren't likely to know anything about measuring garments, so explaining it to them won't help. I say that I...

Buying and Selling on eBay: Tips, Tricks, Problems & Questions

Yes, I got it back. Not sure, though, whether to re-list. I would do well to lose 20 pounds and wear it myself. It is actually pretty cool.

That may be true about an automatic defect. But, end of day, I'm not sure that it matters much, particularly if you're dealing with someone unwilling to resolve something informally.
