    Scent/Fragrance of the Day thread

Did you get it at an estate sale? Often estate sales have vintage perfumes. I got a bottle of vintage Knize Ten that way. Cuir de Russie seems to be one of those mythic scents people talk about in hushed tones. I put Kolnisch Juchten in that same category along with Caron's Tabac Blond.

You should visit China if not just to see what kind of a divergent society they've created from the same establishments and artistic, social traditions. Plus the intrusion of the urban Soviet Socialist system on what been pre-49 still feudal/imperial cities excepting Shanghai.

They also make a good face powder to combat afternoon oiliness. Do you have Cuir de Russie? China has a terrible selection of fine and niche scents. The best one can get are Aqua di Parma or Hermes which are respectable but completely unexciting. Everything is of course overtaxed, I buy...

There's a rather strong initial rose note with the oud but once it drys down, it's quite pleasant. I don't think this would work well in a humid climate since it can easily get cloying.

91 degrees in Beijing and wearing The Aoud by Mancera Paris. The dry heat compliments these otherwise rather rich Middle Eastern scents.

    Briefcase Appreciation thread

Is there a speciality lock manufacturer for high-end briefcases? I suppose there's a possibility that companies like Hermes and Louis Vuitton might produce their locks in-house. Vuitton's locks are especially unique.

I'm interested in an Hermes dustbag. This would need to be a large size, appropriate for a briefcase or Birkin type bag. Thank you.

How are the hard-sided attaches that are not completely rigid made? The Vuitton style ones use a wooden box frame but what about something like this?

    Briefcase Appreciation thread

Is it more difficult to make a hard-sided Vuitton style case or a soft briefcase? I've read that a good handle is quite difficult to make.

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

I saw photos of that Met Gala and there were a number of men in "white tie" who wearing sashes, medals and military orders when they were clearly not admirals, Teutonic barons, Vatican nobility or wizened diplomats of a former far-ranging empire.

I've really seen anyone carry the hard-sided attaches from LV.
