I just saw an ad for davidoff cool water, which is what Labelking would describe as 'teh smell of date-****', I however have some good memories of that scent.

I used it in high school and my girlfriend at the time loved it. I never wore it in college or at university.

It's relatively cheap and I recently thought of using it as a scent for 'nothing-special-days' if know what I mean. My better scents, I try not to use them everyday. I have eau sauvage from Dior which I wear occasionally.

Anyway back on topic, the ad I saw for Davidoff featured a troglodyte of a guy, kind of the missing link in action. Extremely stupid face and a build like a brick. Nothing remotely attractive in this presentation. Now I normally do not pay much attention to advertising but this was such a miss that I would not buy this scent anymore just because of the caveman dude.

Did anything like this ever happen to you with a brand you liked?

Sure, McDonalds, I hate their emotion evoking ads, pisses me off.
Plus my kids are addicted to that ****, which further pisses me off.
Now I feel rage.
Oddly enough one of my neighbors is an executive at McDonalds, and a great friend of mine has done several of their TV campaigns....I do not hate them.

Sure I do. The manufacturers know this, it's called backlash. They have already calculated this into their revenue stream and they don't give a hoot about your single sale.

A few days ago I saw that nivea for men body wash commercials and seems to play on the fact that "grown ups" dislike the way those ax body spray comercials and advertisements portray men. IDK how big of a deal it was but I did notice it was sold as pretty quick.

Yes, I've not bought things due to stupid ads.

But the purpose of brand advertising is simply to get the product/brand into your head. If it is familiar then you are much more likely to buy it. Just like you are more likely to trust somebody you've seen a few times before than somebody new.

There are plenty of things that I will never buy because of their advertising campaigns.

Most ads annoy me, but I never bought most of the stuff that I see in ads in the first place. So I guess can't stop, can I?

^^This reminded me of how I dropped a full bottle of Cool Water aftershave back in college causing it to shatter all over the floor.

I should have replaced it as they appearantly no longer sell aftershave........

l try to avoid any products that are advertised on t.v or radio. l haven't seen a television commerical in well over a decade. l don't like being preached to by people on t.v, it usually fills me up with hate. l'm only open to print advertising.

l particularly hate celebrity advertising. Not into things being sold by phoney people (people that act for a living)

The new Kiton ads here are quite... tacky, possibly gaudy. But then I never started buying so they aren't stopping me. They would, I'm sure.
I find the Dirk Birkembergs (sic..?) ads gaudy. Some sort of 70s gay thing going on?

Well, he does seem to be the smartest in their TV show.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
