I pretty much leave a browser up with email, SF, and news on my desktop. Since most of what I do is responding to emails, paperwork, and various projects with excel and SPSS, I will surf throughout the day. Everything gets done on time.

You're right. It's about the poor chap you fired for having an addiction. Did you seek help for him? Is this not covered under the ADA, and did his disclosure not compel you to offer him help rather than termination?

Bzzzt sorry. Plenty of assholes sit at their desks with magazines or newspapers.

A call center I worked at in college noticed that more and more day shift employees were bringing crap like that. The official stance was that it was ok if it didn't affect sales.

Guess what? It affected sales. Banned all reading materials at your terminal.
