what are your thoughts on wools ties, plaid in particular? Are they too casual, or can they generally be worn in all environments. Also, where can I find some nice skinny wool ties. I'm looking for ones like this steven alan one. Thanks.

I love them with gray flannel suits and sportcoats with no patterns. With too many patterns it is distracting to my eyes. I love that above tie with a nice white button down gray flannel sportcoat and dark blue flannel pants.

I recently bought three wool plaid ties from J. Press. I will wear them in the fall, winter and early spring with my tweed jackets, which they complement admirably. I would find them somewhat incongruous with a lighter-weight worsted suit or for warm-weather wear. Within their niche, however, I like them immensely.

Just my $.02.

Love 'em. I'll wear them with flannel suits or sportcoats. With tweeds they are fantastic.

I love them. I wear them a lot with tweed, or with a sweater, or both depending on the weather.

I have quite a few and I love them. Despite any rules, I wear mine with city suits all the time.

I've never worn them suits but that doesn't mean they can't work. I prefer them with sportcoats though and find they work great with a full-zip sweater or sweater vest if I'm not wearing a sportcoat
