Why no love for the three piece suit?

There's a similar thread to this, but while I do own a couple of three piece suits, I rarely wear them. But it can get uncomfortable and warm!

I reckon it's tough to do it now in the upper hemisphere, although I do see a few blokes with them during June-August but it's great to have one during the Spring or Autumn timeframe.

Given modern climate control, I've never found a waistcoast to be too warm. In fact, it's quite a blessing to keep the rumpled dress shirt in check and I find it straightens up my posture.

Mostly celebrities wear the 3-piece nowadays.

Not sure the fashion trend across the pond but there has been a recent trend here. I think a third of my suits are 3-pieces. Do I wear the waistcoat all the time? No. Do I wear it when I haven't ironed my shirts? Yes. :embar:

It's a matter of personal taste but it also works with certain body types and not a "fit all" combination.

A matter of personal taste - you're right on that one.

I own 4 3 piece suits and must say I like how I feel in them, and yes I am 25 years old. I feel very confident and powerful while wearing them. I work in a corporate setting and get a lot of compliments when I wear them, especially with a pocket square.

I am younger and like 3 piece suits. I would like more 3 pieces but at $400 more per suit for a vest it is hard to justify. Hopefully it will come back big and stay that way for a while.

I own a few 3 piece suits. Honestly, I wear the vests more with mixed pants and jackets than I do with the actual suits that they came with. There aren't too many situations in my life where I'd feel like a full 3-piece was the way to go. IMO, they usually look best with the jacket undone, but I don't walk around that way much.

Lately I have decided not to buy any more suits that aren't either DB or 3-piece. I just prefer the look and don't care that much if it is a bit more formal.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
