White buttons on navy coat - white or navy thread?

No. I fear that the white buttons would add to its air of malaise. Stick with navy.

Interesting.
I was thinking of doing something similar but with the buttonholes themselves - maybe a bold yellow on the bottom one while keeping the other ones more conservative. Too much?

I like the contrast idea. A friend of mine has a similar thing on his navy suit (white thread on all but the end buttons, which are navy) and it's notable without being too striking. Subtle.
