I trust your palate more than most others here, and accordingly I will be sure to have a broth-based dish. Looking forward to it all.

Generally that's a great guideline to evaluate the food at any place that calls itself decent. In fact it's the greatest test for me.

What? Trusting GDL's tastebuds, or broth based dishes?

jean georges is what i imagine eating at matt's place would be like, only more experimentation with asian flavors (curry, chili oil, saffron, various spices even in the desserts etc).

To matt's credit, I think he incorporates some Asian flavors pretty often and does what looks like a nice job with them. I remember some pretty much all-out Japanese style small plates he made, the langoustine pho, etc.

he means broth-based dishes since (I believe) a wow worthy broth isn't the easist thing to do, but having dined with GDL a number of times I trust his 'buds and his opinion.

last full day in Paris after almost two weeks here. gonna miss it. for lunch it was a mushroom and raisin salad, ox tartare, and chocolate mousse at Aux Deux Amis. great deal for the price. for dinner, a bowl of pho right near the Bastille.

Nothing special but had some nice Japanese lunch. Some starter (some kind of chicken and pickles), very good sashimi, miso soup, rice, green tea.

Going to a wedding rehearsal dinner for a friend in a couple hours. His parents are from Marin and brought a bunch of fresh oysters down on ice this morning.

nice.

the best we did for rehearsal was local beef (that was damn good) and lettuce that was grown in a hydroponic thing by some students. Sounds lame but all was really great. But in the end oysters are one of my favorite foods and we didn't have any...
