Thanks for the comments, Fox.

What do you feel would make the closed laced shoes more appropriate? I wear open laced shoes more often then not, but really like these and am looking for more ways to wear them within my wardrobe ;)

Closed-laced shoes (balmorals, oxfords) are supposedly only meant to be worn with formal attire (suits). I believe there is a gray area regarding whether they can be pulled off with odd jacket fits or not.

Understood, but I do see people wearing AE Strands with outfits like this all the time, as well as with jeans. Same for closed lace wingtips.

Is it the blazer that would make this more technically acceptable?

Yeah that's what they say.

Really like the fit of your pants. Where are they from? Also think you are pulling off the tieless spread collar well.

Just can't decide between Proper Cloth's Navy Cotton Linen or a Navy OCBD, but one is going on the next order for sure. Leaning towards the cotton linen.
I would not get the OCBD because being so dark after washing it a few times in the washing machine it is not the same... it does not look as dark or as "clean"...

navy shirts are surprisingly versatile!
Agree.

Just because you see it doesn't mean it's right. Fit looks good, and no one IRL would probably ever say anything, but yes, closed lacing balmoral style should be reserved for more formal fits. Get some bluchers, chukkas, loafers, etc. (maybe in suede?) and the fit will be a bit more coherent.

This is great! I realize now that I need some nice sand coloured trousers (or whatever you would call this colour).
