Would look better without the scarf, and if the trousers had a slightly tighter leg opening (or the trousers rolled down). Jacket fits fine and shoes are baller.

I don't normally care for the scarf but I actually quite like it in this instance. But I think the whole outfit is killer.

kinda disagree here man. scarf works with this. I do think looser pants would be ideal. the fit is ace regardless

I think that kind of scarf looks bad 100% of the time. Subjective but one high up on the list of pet peeves for me. I said tighter (leg opening), haha, but I guess the thighs could be looser. It's really hard to pull of that rolled up look with a too-wide leg opening (I don't think that leg opening is too wide--just when rolled up).

It's just a navy cotton bandana, so thinking of it as a silky flowy scarf is probably a more louche imagining than the reality.

The trousers are Levi 505s, so they're kinda supposed to fit that way. Though they did get over-dried and they shrunk a tad, so points, everyone, for spotting that they are a little grabby in the thigh. You are correct. (I was trying on other trousers for a good ten minutes making sure I hadn't gained seven pounds very suddenly.) But Levi's stretch out after an hour or so, so hell with it.

Seven times out of ten I would wear this with no neckwear at all. And five I would wear it with lightweight chinos in light tan or navy. But SF is like a runway show where I put out my runway stuff, as opposed to my RTW. Not to say I wouldn't wear this out; I very much did.

I am interested in the idea of more types of purely decorative neckwear becoming more accepted in casual wear.

For most of the 20th century, when the supposed "rules" were being written, men—from field hands to playboys—thought nothing of putting on all manner of bandanas, foulards, scarves, and ascots when they weren't expected to be wearing ties. It wasn't considered weird at all, and this was way before you could wear a basketball jersey in a courtroom without anyone batting an eye.

Also, I love seersucker, so I'm interested in trying to wrest it away a bit from the folks who like to wear it as a Thurston Howell III costume while jerking off to a picture of Trent Lott in the bathrooms at Churchill Downs. They have sort of screwed up a really lovely jacketing.

I may post alternates of this look for fun; there is a cotton madras ascot which rarely sees daylight...

And thanks for the scarf love! (those of you that don't hate it)

You are my new favorite poster. When I'm next in Portland, I'm buying you a beverage of your choosing.
