I have one pair true to size (32), and one -1. The waist of the first is indeed too wide, but it's okay apart from that. The -1 is tight in the waist, but also in the thighs (football...) and it's on the short side. In my case, -2 (a number you read a lot about these jeans, -3 even) wouldn't work.

I work for a corporate law firm thats almost 100 years old and they haven't changed the dress code yet besides for allowing us to leave the jacket at home. It's the worst dress code I've ever seen.
