Unfortunately, there is a gut there. I continue to work on it. It comes and it goes, yet it is always there.

I know how you feel, the older I get the harder it is to keep it at bay. I need a better workout routine.

ha! whimps! imagine if you had a job where every 45 minutes someone was bringing you a plate of something and asking "what do you think of this?"

Perhaps this is why the cocaine is so popular with restaurant staff?

It's not really the workout routine that matters but the food you eat. And that definitely gets worse as you get older.

And the chemicals you ingest. I've been trying to get my dad to prescribe me T3 but apparently its "illegal." Meh.

No, not really - that's simplistic. Maybe you were thinking of suburban Midwestern America.
It's the sedentary lifestyle and slowing down of internal processes. Hormonal onset of gut begins in late 20s, you know. Soon for you?

Though I agree that the workout is so much shutting the barn door after the horse has gotten out.

Exercising is effective for improving health (BP, cholesterol etc) but at the end of the day it comes down to calories in v calories out for losing weight.

+1. I started running about two-and-a-half years ago and didn't lose any weight. I started limiting myself to 1800 calories per day at the end of the summer, and I've lost 20 lbs.

There is definitely an element of this going on. My grandfather smuggled a basketball under his shirt until he was about 85 and was rail thin otherwise. I put on a lot of weight while I was getting divorced and while most of it has shed, the belly fat remains.

Some of it is hormones, some of it is lifestyle, some of it is food. Since my new wife got pregnant, we have been eating better. I usually don't take in more than 1500 calories a day, but that's because I get busy and forget to eat. Recently I've been eating meals which don't involve meat. It's something really weird for me. One thing I need to do is exercise more. For me this means juggling, and I was recently approached to join a juggling group, so hopefully that will help.

Peyton also has some good advice on this matter though...

Belly fat is a different type of fat than what's on the rest of your body. It's under the muscle, which is why "beer bellies" aren't flabby, and a lot harder to get rid of than regular fat.

Not really. Just eat less calories, and exercise regularly to burn fat. It's not really that hard to do when you make up your mind to do it. ****, if I can do it anyone can.

What do you mean not really? Visceral adipose tissue is a result of more than overeating and is harder to get rid of.
