When I think of classic timeless styles, a few styles come to mind depending on the occasion. For more casual settings, there is no more classic style than the Penny Loafer. Made the right way with Moccasin construction, high quality leather that has has an unlined upper.

Thus, I present my vintage Florsheim Penny Loafer in classic burgundy.

Another classic style that has a timeless appeal is a black pebble grain Longwing. I love my Florsheims. But, these Nettleton can compete with all but the very best Florsheim and are superior to many other vintage makers.

Good morning:
For many years I wore nothing but penny loafers. When I was a “mod” in England they were de rigeur footwear. When I got to the New World I continued with mainly Bass loafers till the silly eighties and triple kittie tassle loafers.

The old Bass shoes were great. I still have some Weejuns from when they were still made in USA. Great shoes. In fact, I think I still have a pair that I bought in 1987. They have been resoled a few times. They got me through high school and college.

Vintage Allen Edmonds “Weymouth” Circa Early 1960s. The Weymouth was made on the Newport Last which features a beautiful almond shaped toe which accents the spade soles perfectly. View attachment 1476848

Did the Newport last transition into one of their modern numbered lasts? It's a beautiful shape. Just wondering whether I have to wait patiently for a pair of Weymouths to show up in my size, or if there's a modern equivalent I might find more readily.

Hey all, I’ve decided to send my size 9.5 D 93602s along to a hopefully better home and wanted to offer them here before listing them on eBay. Message me if you’re interested. I’m glad to let them go for 40 bucks plus shipping.

Why am I parting ways with this pair? For one thing, I am trying to build up steam on a closet cleaning. For another, though, the right shoe has an annoyingly loud creak with every step that I have decided comes from beneath my foot and perhaps can only be remedied with resoling. I just have too many other shoes that I like better already waiting for work to want to do more with these.

Maybe another foot will fare better— every 93602 that I have tried has some variation on the sound from one place or another… It is a shame that this pair, the best fitting that I have found so far, has by far the loudest noise!

What else? The unusual color of these has been discussed here some time back. I never wore them/scuffed them up enough to really discover if it is the result of dye or polish.

As far as dating info, these came to me with the inset v-cleat, but the heels had sustained serious damage that included the breaking off of a piece of one of the cleats. I had the heels replaced with rubber.

Here are a few more pics

I know I have shared these before. But, they are rare.

These were made to order. The style number is gone, but the customer’s name is still readable.

I can’t be sure about the date. But, based on everything I have compared with my other Florsheim with known dates, I think these are early 60’s. They are later than 1959.

They probably deserve the full restoration service. I think the socks were a mistake. The red color clashes with the shoes and sort of takes away from their tone.

I see a lot of LWBs amongst the members here. And I never get tired of them. I recall a time when I believed that only boring old men wore LWBs.

Hi suit:

My son 42, has always laughed at my shoe choice and mild obsession. In the last six months he lost a significant amount of weight and is replacing his wardrobe. I make no comments or suggestions. Out of the blue last week he said, “Hey dad, where did you get those suede chukkas?” I just smiled and thought, he’s finally growing up! Ahh. ?
