I was down a week or two ago for longer than anticipated. I might be down again in the near future. Have you checked out Ranstead Room?

Have meant to but haven't been yet. There's also a gimmicky Chinatown bar called Hop Sing Laundromat that's gotten a lot of buzz, but the more I read about it, the less I'm inclined to check it out. My favorite cocktail bar in town is probably still Southwark.

Shoot me a pm when you're heading this way.

Hop Sing is a really good deal during happy hour. It is only $9 for a cocktail then. He doesn't pour anything that is under $30 a bottle. I found the whole thing mildly pretentious though. Time is pretty good as well. Have you been to pen & pencil yet? That was my favorite place in the city.

I might have to check out Hop Sing. Despite the GRAVE PERIL of angering the owner and getting thrown out.

Haha, yeah. I've been to the Pen and Pencil. I would've enjoyed it more if the bartender hadn't been hacking the whole time and talking to his regulars about how he should probably be on antibiotics.

Just tell Lee you know Meg and Brett. You won't be thrown out.

Vinschgerl. Mighty delicious with butter and optionally some chives. Yeasted sourdough, coriander seeds/cumin/fennel seed and some species from the genus trigonella.

Hop Sing is interesting, there was a period where I hit Philly every few months for business, so I've been twice, as well as to most of the other decent cocktail bars down there -- Ranstead, Franklin Mortgage, Southwark (my first, a few years ago). I hate the BS routine you have to go through the first time, I mean, ****, man, I'm there for a drink, I'm in a good suit, and I am respectful. Whatevs. It is quiet and the drinks are really cheap for what are top-flight cocktails. Franklin still gets my vote though.

Anyway, studying for finals, had a friend come over and make me dinner. Sweet. So, one Ginza cocktail, some Molydooker Verdehlo, and now a Cure for Pain....and a few more hours of studying. FML.
