not a label i particularly would go for in terms of the clothing itself, but moreso for the label (which is fine), like a women's handbag or sunglasses.

thus, it doesnt make sense to me to buy a tom ford item with the label cut and/or red marked out.

basically would be like a gucci handbag with the LV label marked out or a bitloafer with the gancini bit cut out.

it doesnt make sense.

Always knew you are a brand-whore.

You are correct. The referenced swim trunks are hideous. I did not want to crap on the seller's thread; but, will do so here. Retailed $670? A complete waste of money. You will look like an idiot wearing them. Makes some of the ridiculous clothes and prices from Michael Bastian appear reasonable.

i think that the statement that he tries to make with all of his stuff is not at all subtle, unlike say, the aforementioned Cucinelli. the problem with loud/flashy statements is that you will likely have as many (or more) misses than hits.

i have a couple of Tom Ford items - a tie that i bought for myself, and a blue gingham shirt i picked up from B&S. i love both of them and they get a ton of compliments - the shirt also fits me very well because it's very slim fitting and i prefer a slim fit with a looser collar, so i can size up on the collar without the sides looking like a tent.

i have seen some other great ties and pants, and his best work is on the knits - but the suits and shoes are almost all undeniably ugly. the stuff coming from C21 is definitely the uglier stuff - i've seen his stuff at NM and even Last Call NM and there are some better pieces there.

no. my point is , for those who are brand whoring, basically anyone into tom ford should be into other brands like lv and gucci.

it doesnt make sense to buy this if the tags are cut and marked out. if your intent is to buy based on the brand label.

+1 on the first part of your post, but don't understand the second statement. On a tie, ok maybe, but nobody sees the tags on a shirt, suit or shoes and they are still TF stuff and look that way to any viewer.

right. to us that's the logic. becuase we wear something based on the look/fit.

but ive been around places (clubs, local asian casinos <that's another story lol>, trust me, they brand whore, and when they ask where you get that sweater or jacket, they are glad to open the label to show you the LV or Tom Ford (if it was tom ford)).
also lot of these people in these places automatically assume the 'brand' 'dictates' what looks good or not. i saw one time a guy with a tawdry prada sweater on and everyone at the table thought it looked hot, because it was Prada.

so on that premise, i dont think it makes sense to buy cut tags, as the Tom Ford merchandise is geared towards that kind of clientele. i think.

So much of the more extreme TF line is based upon a variation of the 70's. Having been in college and then off into the real world at that time, I saw a lot of people buy a lot of pretty ugly things which at the time they thought were very, very cool. Of course, everyone laughed at it just a few years later. I think that will be the case with his more extreme stuff.

But, every now and then I see someone looking sharp, usually in a dark suit and white shirt and it looks cool and smart and it turns out to be either Tom Ford, D&G or Prada. I think if you stay in a safe zone with these glamour designer brands you can do OK.

I didn't even see the bowtie....TF stuff only looks good on himself, and that is because he only wears a black suit with white shirt.

Your avatar is all that Tom Ford wishes that he could be, but isn't.
