No need at all to take off your Aldens if you have TSA Pre. Just keep them on, point at the other scanner (not the metal detector) and go through when told. I fly weekly and haven't taken off my Aldens in at least a year...maybe two.

As another fellow global entry member, this has been my solution also.

Oddly enough, my local regional airport's metal detector must be dysfunctional or something because it has never gone off over my Alden's where as EVERY other airport's has. Do you think I should mention it?

I would. Make me feel a little safer to know the gear was working.

I hadn't thought about the one foot at a time method going through the metal detector. It would also depend on the sensitivity they have it. Anyone else tried it successfully?

Lately I just wear a pair of AEs or trainers. Since I probably would have packed some sneakers anyways depending on the trip. But I can see the need to have some good shoes on when you get to your destination.

At a courthouse one time my watch set it off and its mostly titanium. Joked with him it normally doesn't (even though I still take it off for airports) and he said they had theirs turned up a little and if you get closer to the sides it will detect if it was something borderline. So maybe one foot in front of the other will do it :) But then you might look like your trying to hide something...

Fair enough. While the Cincinnati regional airport doesn't receive much leisure travelers (it's literally the most expensive RAP to travel in/out of in the country 5 years running) it would behoove them to check it out.

...Guess I won't be cartwheeling through the metal detector anymore.

Decided to keep these instead of selling. Very happy with my decision. Super comfortable and really sharp. Love them. Cognac calfskin wingtip on Plaza from Yenni at Brick & Mortar.

I have bought some Alden's recently and so far, I have:

1. JCrew color 8 PCT
2. Frans Boone color 8 "Dr. Jones"
3. Color 8 "974"
4. Whiskey "975"
5. Brown CXL chukka

Now I am putting together a list of future acquisitions. Help me out. What should be on my list? I love shell cordovan, but am open to any Alden shoes.

something in cigar or snuff would be my choice. Brooks Bros offers a snuff boot on discount from time to time. Cigar would have to come from one of the alden shops, most likely with a bit of a wait.
