So I ended up not buying the BB ones, since the seller didn't answer me. Instead I got these 6776 from the 90s (said the seller). The code one the shoe would make these from 1995. They are in great shape (this is the unpolished and unconditioned state of them) and got resoled and a new leather sock insert as well. On their it says "Alden Service" Does anyone know anything about it?
Patina is very strong with a reddish brown to bordeaux to a dark brownish plum color.
Also: They're a 9D and fit great besides some heel slippage but I guess and hope that it will lessen with the leather soles softening up and the heel cups getting moulded to the feet. They were less than 200 so it's not a very expensive experiment

When you say Northampton, do you mean all the shoemaker in that part of England?

I haven't tried the breadth of every Northampton shoemake. In my experience, to my knowledge, based solely on tassel loafers, I find my Alden's to be significantly more comfortable than EG and C&J. The last specifically has high walls and the heel is much more locked to my stride and the outsole has a more pliable flex. My C&J are double oak sole and my EG are oak bark tanned, so they are more firm and sturdy, but overall I choose Alden. Under penalty of the law I submit this state to be true only as my own opinion.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
