Gentlemen,

These have been showcased here already by others, but I finally got around to documenting them, the Alden Color #8 Shell Cordovan Stitchup Boots.

Dear all ; i'm in the UK and have for a while have wanted a few pairs of LHS in a few different materials, but cannot find anywhere that can sell me them - used or new. Where on earth are they to be found?

Love the Color 8 with brass hardware combo! Wish more make-ups would feature this! Looks just like the David Wood Baldwin!

Thank you. I thought of them, but they seem to have only have the LHS in colour 8 cordovan (and in v limited sizes).
I'd like an unlined suede (light andnsark brown) and in whiskey/Ravello.
Is my best bet to buy from an American seller and just pay the VAT/import fees?

For whiskey and ravello your only option is the secondary market. Have you tried ebay?

Considering Alden’s injunction against US retailers selling to overseas customers and their “rare” shell games, your best bet would be to buy used (and possibly pay VAT/import fees) and/or purchase an alternative such as the CJ Harvard. The Harvard isn’t the same of course, — for better and worse — and they’re more expensive than the LHS, but you won’t need to develop a “relationship” with an Alden retailer to earn the opportunity to purchase a pair if and when one is offered in whiskey or ravello — which may be never. (Mind you, whiskey shell Harvards aren’t always available either.)

Suede LHS should be easier to find. They don’t get as much attention on internet forums as the shell version, but they’re very nice to have. Unlike shell, they yield to the foot softly, stay cool in summer heat, and come in colors difficult to replicate in shell.

In all the photos I've seen of this boot, the color of the shell looks much darker than normal color 8, almost like cigar-eight. Is this the case in real life, or is that a trick of the lighting against the brass eyelets and lighter welt? They look beautiful regardless.

Best color 8 boots they've made in forever. It looks so much better with the light welt and brass. Hope Alden takes that hint. I wonder if DW got L&F's C8 and L&F got DW's C4?

Perhaps you’ve done this already, but you could ask UK retailers about the stock models you want. Perhaps they could put in an order for you. Otherwise, ask Stefan at Shoes of Stefan, who says he’ll get you any model in the catalogue.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
