Hey guys. Maiden voyage for my lhs loafers. Do they look like they fit ok? A little concerned about the gap on the left foot. Besides that the shoe fits great overall. Minimal heel slippage, no tight spots or pain.
No tight spots or pain and minimal heel slippage sounds like a great fit! Good news is you can always incorporate tongue pads or those Achilles pads that stick to the inside of the heel counter to address heel slippage.

Flat feet can cause that, even when the fit is good elsewhere

Just in time for Fall (at least here in California, where today is a sunny 66°F). Had to let Jim at Alden SF know I was looking for a Snuff Suede 9794 LWB in my 8.5C Barrie dress shoe size. Once they arrived, he promptly notified me. Love this factory standard make-up since it has the double waterloc soles and blind eyelets.

so, uhm, what's going on with my LHS penny loafers sole and how do I fix it (or get it fixed)?

Here's 2 pics, what puzzles me is that I got these 2 years ago and I haven't used them a ton (mostly over the summer, too). On the other hand, the third picture shows the sole of a pair of intensively worn 300$ Tagliatore tassel loafers that I've had for 6 years that looks nowhere near as bad (so you can kinda draw a parallel).

What exactly is the issue here?

It seems to only happen with the oiled waterlock soles. I have a few pairs with the aforementioned and this always seems to happen. I use a Dremel to sand them down a bit.

The bottom element of the heel is so worn out and beaten up that it has swollen up and it isn't even flush with the rubber piece underneath anymore. Kinda crazy for a 900 $ shoe that was gently used.

@serious_ed Yeah these are waterlocked soles iirc, thanks for the suggestion. I might just bring them to a cobbler and see if he can replace those pieces of... uhm, wood or leather or cork or whatever that is.

I remember AE had offered a Burgundy Suede in a previous Trunk Show and lots of people (including myself) took advantage. Don't recall any loafers, but saw some Longwings and I got a Hamilton in that dark burgundy suede. Very underrated IMO!
Thank you all for the suggestions!
