Leffot has a saddle preorder in #8 shell with brown alpine grain saddles and heels. I already have a saddle shoe on Barrie in black shell with #8 saddles and heels. Both are on leather soles, mine have black edges and the Lefflot model has antique edges.

Do you think these shoes will look very similar? Obviously, the Lefflot model has a slightly more casual appearance, in light of the grain saddles and heel and the antique edges. But overall, viewed through the eyes of someone who is not a shoe person, will they look very similar? I'm interested in the Leffot model but not sure I want to spend the money, in light of the fact that I already have a pair of shell saddles.

July 2021: The Ultimate Suede Makeup

Gentlemen, I can not believe that we are now on the back half of 2021. It has been quite an interesting year, at least for me here! I wanted to kick off July 2021’s monthly topic. Take all the time that you need to think of your personal response, as you got all month to work on a post that suits you and captures your thoughts, so no need to rush to post a response today!

July is when the Northern Hemisphere starts to heat up and Suede is a great companion to the summer months. It is breathable, flexible, and soft and yet offers a nice sense of styling. So, to that end, what is your ultimate suede makeup and why? Are you all about them boots, shoes, or loafers? Lined or Unlined? Looking forward to a great dialog as there are so many different ways that one can go with this!!!

Please reply to this post to make your responses easier to see. Thank you so much and I very much look forward to seeing everyone’s thoughts this month!

Joe, this is like the worst audience to ask the does it duplicate question to... I guess to me it depends upon a) where you want to go with your collection - are you looking for the leanest collection that hits every kind of vibe or are you okay with some amazing models that may duplicate some, b) are you looking for something slightly more casual - the AG model is amazing and gorgeous, but it is going to be slightly more casual than your all Shell variant, and c) what you think of it in the end - I think it is an amazing model, but do you want to make room for it and ultimately are you going to reach for it in the morning...

Hope that helps you without giving you a direct yes or no! The general answer here is why not??? :)

This one is easy for me! Todd Snyder green reverse Indy boot. Indy boot, check. TB last, check. GREEN SUEDE, quadruple check. Light welt and neocork, classic check. God I wish I had these...curse my inevitable betrayal by my EE feet!

Runner up: any of the Plaza lasted plain toe slippers (in any material, but for this question suede), but loden is best because green. Since Alden of SF has no plans to reorder the lodens, I had to go to Carmina to acquire.

June flew by and I missed the ultimate Indy, but as luck would have it it’s the same makeup as my ultimate suede. The David Wood Hobson is the perfect Southern California Indy boot. Love these.

@frankmartin - Jim is correct. 270 welts only on Neocork, specifically because Alden only pairs Neocork with ortho heels, and the ortho heels can't acommodate a 360 welt. And as Jim mentioned Alden's not going to make an LWB with anything but a 360 pre-stitch reverse welt, however they will make a PTB..

And for every rule Alden makes, they sometimes violate it. Behold, the Hornet, an Alden LWB on Commando with a 270 welt. This is Regina grain made for Standard and Strange when they were carrying Alden.

I like suede. Shoes, boots, loafers, just suede in general. Asking for just one is kind of like asking "Which one of your kids do you like best?" So I came up with my top 3. In shoes, the Ealdwine Fayetteville saddle shoe, in Boots Yenni's Davis boot and in loafers, good ole Aberdeen snuff suede. I have always had a problem playing by the rules :)

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
