Found these gems at a fairly new antique/consignment shop in town. Shell Cordovan Florsheim Imperials in what looks to be Horween Color 4 that had been polished at some point with a color #8 polish. Was able to get some of the tinted polish off and let the brown hues come through.

First shot is after a damp cloth and wipe down. Then a brush.

Second is after a brush and some Alden neutral cream and another brush and buff.

Maybe 15/20 minutes. Gonna be a fun journey bringing these beauts back to life. And to boot, or boat I should say;) they only costs...$0.50!!!!

My understanding is that Florsheim started with Color #4 and did additional finishing at their factory.

That's an amazing price, and they're terrific shoes. Well worth a resole once you've worn them down fully. I'd recommend Bedos - he's got a really good approach with these shoes.

Yes, new soles may be in order, but for the price you paid- it's worth a resole and you are still way ahead :)

Right?!?!? 50 cents!!!! I felt like I was stealing.

Thanks for the insight on Florsheim. I knew they used color 4 but didn’t realize about the additional finishing. That would explain the color and variances. They are beautiful in the sun.

Yeah they still have some life left, but a resolve will be in order. Thanks for the tip about Bedos, I shall look into them for sure!

Everything I know about this kind of thing comes from vcleat.com and the awesome Vintage thread here on SF. :)

Curious about fading....

...will whiskey cordovan fade to lighter or darker under extended sunlight ??
It'll lighten if you left it in a window (sun bleaching), but actual use and maintenance is going to cause it to darken.
