Hi guys, appreciate this is a SC thread l, however was after some shoe advice. Deciding between SC & G&G.

Pro's and cons from owners of both?
The big differentiator for St. C. is that they will do a customized last for you if you don't like the fit of their stock offerings. This is good for those of us who have narrow, lumpy feet because G&G do make a D Width shoe that fits, but it rubs in places. Quality wise they are comparable, I think, with the eventual win out going to G&G for their superior finishing and styling of their work. St. C. really has them on customizability, since every pair is MTO, you can do a lot more with St. C. than you can with G&G.

To me all comes down to aesthetics. G&G obviously the classic English "in town" aesthetic and SC more of a rugged Austro-Hungarian vibe.

Great! I will visit The Hand this week to see how the different brands fit me and if I need a personal last. If so I will join the saint Crispin's trunkshow in November. Really looking forward to it! Lovely shoes and I hope ordering them was a nice experience!
Thank you! I've ordered EG, G&G and now StC from Dennis at The Hand. He sent me trial pairs in two different sizes to help me confirm my fit. Dennis is one of the best in the business, always a great experience working with him.

That's also my first impression, very conscious and considerate. Something lacking with a lot of high-end retailers these days, they either want to sell and make that sweet commission or have an air about them. Something I experienced with a friend of mine with another shop (cannot stress that enough), we felt very unwelcome and I couldn't even sit on the leather sofa, because I could damage it. My friend (who had the intention to buy) felt so bad that we walked out of the store.

Enfin will buy either now or in november, it's my first time buying a shoe in this price category so I could definitely use the guidance of Dennis.

this. I once went to Stockholm to visit the famous Skoaktiebolaget. I was kindly greeted, only to be dropped off mid-consultation by the sales associate to a colleague. This was in the midst of a 3 shoes purchase on that day. This episode still left a sour taste to this day.

Just to follow up on our conversation, yesterday I visited The Hand and met Dennis in person.
I felt very welcoming and he helped me hone in the correct last and size. I felt he really listened to my concerns regarding fit. We came to the conclusion that the standard lasts from STC worked the best (compared to EG) for me and I didn't need a personal last. Mto with some small modifications would work perfectly. So I ordered a dark brown penny loafer on the 717 style last, with ton-sur-ton apron stitching. 8mm sole. Really looking forward to it!

Looking forward to it. Interesting choice with model 717 - the most common penny is model 539 with the classic last. Having said that, their MTO is relatively fast compared to other companies - don’t forget to share when they arrive. Ry

I think Dennis hasn't had a mto with the 717, so yes very interesting. I do like to 539, but I found it way too pointy for my liking. It will take around 8-10 weeks. And of course will share it here!
