slimming a brooks madison suit?

I got a suit years ago when I was just out of college that's probably the equivalent of the current "madison" fit from brooks brothers. Considering that I'd get the Milano fit if I were to buy a BB suit today, the Madison is huge on me. I think I'll just give it to my brother in law, but it can't hurt to ask here: Is it even worth bringing to a tailor to slim it down? Everything about this suit is too big for me (shoulders, the length of the jacket, the ballooning pants, etc. )

Unfortunately the shoulders cannot be fixed. Also if every single aspect of the suit needs to be taken in it's not worth it, even if the shoulder did fit. You'd need the pants slimmed, maybe tapered, the sleeves shortened, the back taken in, etc. The more ill fitting the higher the cost b/c the more work required. It may cost less than buying a new BB suit (Between 800 to 1200) but it won't be a good investment.

Agree - alterations are really for minor shortcomings not re-cutting the garment.

try going to a bespoke tailor and ask them for some advice regarding the fit - or if you like the style and design of a particular suit you can always present them the sample suit and have them replicate it. just a suggestion.

Sounds like the problem isn't so much the cut, but the fact that it just plain doesn't fit.

A suit that fits in a cut that's a little fuller than you'd like is one thing, but you're not going to make the size of everything go down several notches to where it fits.

(I also find the Madison fit not particularly big either, but it probably helps that I'm a 37S. The slimmer cuts start to look a bit extreme at that size.)
