When you get into running things change. Especially the running attire. From cotton tshirts, basketball shorts, and tube socks you get into tech shirts, shorter running shorts, and sleek running socks.

This post is dedicated to running shorts. It also has a readers pole to participate in.

When you run in running shorts do you:

1. Run with no underwear and use the support of the inner lining only.

2. Run with compression shorts only using the support of the compression short

3. Run with underwear/compression shorts under the shorts hiding the bullwinkle and friends?

4. Run neekkid and free?

this can also apply to other sports as well... like cycling:

and skiing:

I just use shorts with built in liner or compression short. I'll add separate inner compression short when its cold. I'll also add jackstrap with a sock (outside of the inner compression short) for when it's really cold.

I run in a pair of Reebok women's running shorts with the inner lining removed.

generally I run with shorts that have a liner. I do have a few pairs of soccer shorts with which I'll wear something underneath: compression or other moisture-wicking garment.

true those are good lookin... i guess they are at the most a 5" short probably 4". I remember when I used to run in 10" basketball shorts... now there is a sweetspot for me at the 5" lengths... the 4" are nice but if they ride up then you're better off going with the true short short running shorts.

I run exclusively in New Balance running shorts, with just the liner. For biking, I normally use mtb pants with padding, or road biking shorts, also with padding.

I've gotten into running with compression shorts under the shorts+liner from Nike (mostly).

It's hard to find compression shorts these days -- aka spandex shorts -- which are designed to be worn by themselves. Most compression shorts have an underwear-style waistband and thinner fabric. I have some older nylon/spandex shorts by reebok and poly-blend nike dri-fit shorts which are great to wear by themselves. The fabric is thick enough to maintain some.... mystery.

Nike makes the best running shorts in my opinion.

I used to only use them as is, but now I wear compression boxers as well to address any potential chaffing.

Double up, you can always take a layer off!

When it is really hot I wear Nike running shorts (with inner lining) with nothing underneath.

I run in swimwear with the lining removed and underwear on. I do this so I dont have to wash my shorts everyday. Just remove the undies and hang the swim trunks. done. (i only run 3-5 miles)

when its cold I wear compression pants under my shorts, or sweatpants sometimes

**** as it may be, this is actually pretty helpful for me. All my running shorts have that loose swimsuit-style liner inside and always gets my boxers bunched up...but if you guys are saying just liner is acceptable, that's how I'm gonna go.
