Falls at about same spot on their model, the sleeves are about 1/4 - 1/2 inch shorter relative to his hand.

Happy Holidays. So, Bloomingdale's had a sale, I purchased this Polo RL camel coat. Size 42 (last size available), made in USA (I'm guessing a newer version). I'm thinking it's a classic full cut, but without it wearing me; arms look/feel a bit long though, I may look into having this adjusted.

Back from the tailor. Had the sleeves brought up, and the martingale buttons moved to bring in the sides approximately one inch on either side.

For me this makes a huuuuge difference. Comparisons, before and after...

No, no coat is worth the price of a solid used car. This is madness, a bespoke coat from Savill row, camel hair, comes to about 5k-7k. This is now just getting ridicolous.
+1. The Purple Label markup has always seemed ridiculous to me. This is one of the more egregious examples.

It was of course a rethorical question, I think that a price around 5k would be fairer and much more attractive, although some people would consider that price just peanuts.

The coat is gorgeous though.

you can find good deals on ebay. i got a RLPL 100% cashmere polo coat a few years ago for ~600$ shipped. there were some moth holes but i went to the tailor and it's good as new! tbh it's an insane deal cause with today's inflation that would be just enough to get you the cashmere fabric if you were to go the bespoke route.

I don't doubt it, but personally I wouldn't like to deal with moth holes or the possible trouble caused by other issues.

I found a handmade Oxxford camelhair polo coat in like-new condition for about $300 on eBay. There are vintage camelhair polo coats a plenty on eBay. I wouldn't buy anything at RLPL at full retail. The markup is ridiculous and the quality is not commensurate with the price. You might as well get something custom tailored for that cost.

Probably there are some people who will find creative ways to book these high price tag purchases via their business expenses accounts or tax deductions, but for the rest of us the retail asking price of the equivalence of more than ten pairs of Crockett & Jones Handgrade shoes is just a bit too steep.

Although eBay or some of the similar localised online marketplaces often do have dealers who specialises in certain high turnover brands particularly for Ralph Lauren. There are a few similar RL Purple Label Camel Coats apparently listed in my jurisdiction such as the one below of an older season's iteration with 90% Wool and 10% Cashmere for something close to USD $1,200 in size 38R.

There is also another more recent if not the current season's model in 100% Camel Hair listed for roughly USD $2,300 in size 36R as below,

There are also many RLPL products always tucked away at some corners in a Ralph Lauren Factory Outlet from time to time, I got this RLPL Randall Suede Café Racer Jacket for roughly USD $250 brand new with tag, it was just hanging out there in the open on the rack oblivious to the vast majority of the customers in the store who probably did not appreciate the differences between PRL, RLPL and or RRL, but sometimes you do get lucky on the online marketplaces and in the Factory Outlets.

Local boutique has it for $10K CAD, which is about $6,900 USD. Will likely go on sale soon.

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
